Every Side Hustle I'm Trying to Make €10,000 in 30 days
As you may know, I’m currently in the middle of my ‘Making €10,000 in 30 days’ challenge. To give this challenge the highest possibility of success, and to make the challenge more interesting to watch, I’m trying a lot of different ways to make money. Here is a list of every side hustle I have tried or am going to try during this challenge.
1. Selling my old stuff
I started the challenge of with one of the easiest ways to make some money: selling my old stuff. Selling things you don’t use anymore is a nice way to get the income ball rolling a bit without too much effort. What I’m selling:
- A mini fridge
- An electric kitchen appliance
- Candle molds and wicks
- Candle dye
- A camera lens
- Football shoes
2. Freelancing as a video editor
I started my career as a professional video editor on the freelance platform Fiverr. I quit editing here when I got a ‘normal’ side job at a local campsite. Now, it’s time to return to Fiverr to help make this challenge successful.
3. Promoting my video editing business
In addition to editing on Fiverr, I also have my own video editing business for YouTube and TikTok creators based in the Netherlands. I haven’t really promoted my business in a few months for the same reason I quit editing on Fiverr. I want to pick video editing back up and that also means promoting my business ‘VMY Media‘.
4. Selling UGC videos on Fiverr
More and more Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube creators put ‘UGC content creator’ in their usernames and/or bios. UGC creator stands for User Generated Content creator. Brands seem to love working with this type of creator. Instead of trying to start up my own UGC personal brand, I’m going to try and sell UGC videos on Fiverr. Brands can send me their product and I will create a UGC video, they can use as an ad, testimonial, unboxing, or tutorial for their brand.
5. Launching my candle business
My candle business ‘Vrolijke Kaars’ is a project I’ve been working on for months now. I’ve spent that time testing many many different kinds of wax, wicks, colors, styles, and more in order to perfect my candles as much as possible. Now, it is time to finally actually launch this business. I will start of with about 20-30 candles for the launch to see how they sell.
6. Becoming a pet sitter
I love animals! I’ve been surrounded by pets my whole life but they’re, unfortunately, not allowed on campus. This means a side hustle like pet sitting would be absolutely perfect for me! I get to be around pets and be paid for it! I will advertise my pet sitter services around my area through flyers, the local facebook group, and a dedicated website for pet sitters.
7. Collecting bottles and cans
In the Netherlands, when you buy a bottle of soda, a canned drink, or a case of beer, you pay a deposit of €0.15-€0.25. Once you return it, you receive that money back. During the challenge, I will go around my neighborhood and ask people whether they have bottles or cans they would like to donate. A lot of people create a kind of stockpile before going to the supermarket to bring all the bottles back. If I’m able to receive some of that stockpile, I could make a few euros doing this.
8. Selling my mom's art
My mom has always been very creative and, at this moment, she is into creating modern abstract drawings. I’m going to try and sell some of these drawings to earn some money. I did receive her permission for this, of course. If I actually manage to sell something, I will also definitely hand a percentage over to her.
9. Selling my photographs
I’ve been a hobby photographer for years now and over the years, I have made some pretty cool photographs. For this challenge, I will try and sell some of these photographs as prints or on things like mugs to make some more money.
10. Starting affiliate marketing
Affiliate marketing is a really simple way to make some side income. That being said, it is not necessarily easy. With affiliate marketing, you apply to an affiliate program and receive a specific link that people can use to go to that brand’s website. Once people actually buy something through your link, you will receive a percentage of that sale. I will try to include affiliate marketing in my YouTube videos and on this blog. In addition, I might try to create TikTok videos about a specific product to promote it. I could also start a specific affiliate marketing website but I don’t think I will have enough time for that during this challenge.
11. Trying to get monetized on YouTube
I’ve been uploading on YouTube since 2020 but, unfortunately, I’m still not monetized. In order to be monetized on YouTube, you need 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours. At this moment, I’m nowhere near that with approximately 350 subscribers and 400 watch hours. It has always been a dream fo mine to be monetized on YouTube. How amazing would it be to make videos, upload them, and then actually be paid residually for those videos?! During this challenge, I will try to focus on creating videos that have a higher potential of going viral in order to, hopefully, finally reach to monetization requirements.
12. Becoming TikTok famous
TikTok is a really unique platform. It feels like your TikToks can either go crazy viral or will completely flop. During this challenge, I will try to come up with a TikTok video that will put me in that second category. My goal with TikTok is not so much to be popular on there, but more so to bring people from TikTok to YouTube.
13. Asking brands to sponsor my challenge
This whole challenge is based on me being uncomfortable. I’m uncomfortable filming and uploading a YouTube video every day. I’m also uncomfortable asking people for things. That’s why I thought it would be a good personal challenge to ask my favorite brands for sponsorship. I’m not really expecting a response from any of those companies but it would be absolutely amazing if one of them does respond!
14. Selling a digital product
You basically can’t search for ‘ways to make money’ without coming across someone promoting making and selling your own digital product. Now, I think making and selling a digital product is much harder than many influencers make it seem. However, that doesn’t mean I’m not going to give it a shot. I don’t have a clear idea of exactly what product I would like to create and sell but I will definitely be thinking about that during this challenge.
15. Building an Instagram page
Building an Instagram page to make money seems like a forgotten method by now. A few years ago, everyone was doing it or trying it, now no one really seems to be going for it anymore. Not me though. I will be trying to grow an Instagram page during this challenge. I’m not an expert on Instagram at all but I still think it would be a fun challenge to try and grow a page.
16. Create a viral YouTube short
Whereas I’m not an expert on Instagram, I’m much more of an expert when it comes to YouTube. As a YouTube addict, a four year YouTube creator, and a video editor for different YouTubers, I do know a thing or two about YouTube. I know this sounds rich when my channel isn’t even monetized but that’s what the viral short is for ;). YouTube shorts have a much higher potential of going viral than regular long-form videos. A few of my shorts have actually gone somewhat viral relative to my normal viewer count. During this challenge, I want to create a YouTube short with at least 1 million views.
17. (Online) tutoring
Time for a more traditional side hustle again. I was pretty good in about four to five subjects in high school. During this challenge, I will take that knowledge an try to turn it into money by tutoring current high school kids. I will be offering tutoring in English, German, history, business economics, and geography. I will be promoting this service locally and online.
18. Becoming a product reviewer
Product reviewing is a surprisingly big niche within the world of content creation. Most product reviewers start their careers by reviewing stuff they already own. After some time, brands will actually start to send their products to certain product reviewers to generate promotion. Think about MKBHD on YouTube. If I can start a successful product-reviewing YouTube channel, I might just be able to receive some of these free products. With a bit more luck, the YouTube channel will actually be monetized as well to make a more direct income.
19. Starting a print-on-demand business on Etsy
Print-on-demand, POD for short, is super popular currently. With POD, you create a design, place your design on mockups, put the photos on Etsy, your own website, or other online marketplaces, and wait until someone actually orders. Once someone orders, the product will be made and shipped by a third party like Printify or Printful. This means you don’t have any inventory costs or costs of goods until someone actually orders one of your products. Actually selling one of your products is obviously the hardest part of this whole equation but if you manage to run a successful POD business, it can really earn you some money.
20. Elementor websites
I’ve been making websites with Elementor for quite some years now. In fact, this very website was build with it. Now, I’m no Elementor wizard but I definitely know my way around the program. This means, I can actually try and sell my website building services to people who are looking for an affordable website building option. With a super experienced website builder, you usually pay thousands of euros simply because you pay for experience. With me, you would only pay a few hundred euros because I have less experience.
